Reporting Overhanging Shrubs

Should you have problems with shrubs overhanging the footpath or causing an obstruction you may find the following advice useful.

Information We Need From You

In order for the City Council to take the appropriate action, the following information would be useful when you Report a Problem with a Shrub:

  • The location where the shrubs are causing a problem
  • Who owns the property - is it privately owned or owned by the City Council?
  • What is the precise problem?

What We Can Do About It

  • If the shrubs are located on a private property the City Council will pass the details on to Lincolnshire County Council in order for them to send an instruction to the owner of the property to get the plants pruned back. If the owner fails to comply with this instruction, the County Council will do the work on their behalf and re-charge the owner. This process is likely to take between 4 to 8 weeks due to the notice periods which must be given.
  • If the shrubs are on a City Council property then the department responsible for the building will organise for the shrubs to be pruned.
  • If the shrubs are located on either the highway, an amenity area, or housing shrub bed, then the City Council's appointed grounds maintenance contractor will be sent to prune the shrubs off the path.
