Lincolnshire Business Support Network (LINBIS)
LINBIS New Business Support Network for start-ups and entrepreneurs.
LINBIS is a new business support network, backed by four Lincolnshire Local Authorities designed to encourage business start-ups and entrepreneurs and help boost the local economy. North Kesteven District Council, The City of Lincoln and East and West Lindsey District Councils are working in partnership with the private sector to provide one-to-one, face-to-face professional support for start-up businesses.
While Business Link, the Government’s on-line portal for business support remains an excellent source of information and advice, a combination of local circumstances including economic deprivation, rural isolation and patchy broadband coverage means that a digital-only solution is not always appropriate in Lincolnshire.
Starting your own business is a daunting prospect but the process need not be difficult. At the outset, knowing which questions to ask and who can answer them is half the battle and that’s where one to one support offers the flexibility and depth of advice some budding entrepreneurs need to avoid the pitfalls, overcome barriers, find their feet and build confidence. Some might even decide that running a business is not the right choice for them.
The Local Authority partners are backing the private sector to create a robust, sustainable local market for business support. With Local Authority support the partners believe that over time capacity and quality will increase so that local businesses will not need to rely on external subsidy or short-term public sector programmes. North Kesteven and West Lindsey are not covered by existing European funded programmes and one of the aims of the network is to provide a County wide level of basic quality support for local businesses so that no potential business is disadvantaged, regardless of location, sector, age, sex or personal circumstances.
All LINBIS advisers and support providers meet quality and service criteria set by Local Authorities. Anyone thinking of starting a business or any new business that has been trading for less than a year that needs help or advice can contact their local authority Economic Development Team or a member of the LINBIS Network direct in complete confidence that the advice they receive will be independent and of good quality.
All providers offer the services of qualified business advisors and a free initial consultation to help anyone thinking of starting a business make the right choices and set them on the right path. The scheme is open to all locally-based business support providers willing to meet accreditation criteria.
