National Apprenticeship awards
Large Employer of the Year
In March 2012 we were crowned Lincolnshire and Rutland Employment and Skills Board’s Large Employer of the year. In 2012 Tom Snook was awarded Apprentice of the year amongst very stiff competition at the Lincolnshire and Rutland Employment and Skills award ceremonies and has presented at several local events to raise the Apprenticeship profile.
In June 2010, the City Council won the regional ‘Large Employer Award’, beating hundreds of entries from the private and public sector to the title at a ceremony at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham and followed this up by winning the prestigious National Award later in the year.
The council has had a successful apprenticeship scheme for more than 14 years, with more than 60 per cent of apprentices ever recruited still in jobs within the authority and rising through the ranks.
There are currently more than 50 young apprentices at the council, carrying out jobs in a wide range of departments, including the anti-social behaviour team, human resources, benefits and building maintenance.
National Training Award
The City Council received a prestigious National Training Award in a ceremony held in Leicester.
We were presented with a Regional National Training Award at the East Midlands Regional Ceremony, on Thursday 14th October 2010. The council was one of the organisations that made up the Large Employer category, and fought off competition from industry giants from the private sector such as Rolls Royce to scoop the honour.
Apprentice of the Year
At the East Midlands Apprenticeship Awards 2010, our former apprentice, Joel Dowse, who mirrored Sam Barstow’s achievement of two years ago, took home the Apprentice of the Year award and went on to be runner up at the National Awards.
