Bins and Waste FAQ

Green Waste Collections

How do you know to collect my bin when I have paid, and what will stop other people from swapping my bin, or presenting bins they haven't paid for?

The information sent out to you when you pay includes a sticker for your bin, and we ask you to clearly mark your address on it. You are required to place the sticker on your bin in a visible the location as described in the information. Staff will cross reference the sticker with their rounds lists to ensure that only paying customers receive the service. This system has been used elsewhere successfully.

How often do you collect?

The service collects every two weeks all year round. Your green bin will only be collected if you have an up to date sticker on it.

Is it important where my bin sticker is placed on the bin?

Yes. We require the sticker to be placed under the handles in the location indicated in the information sent to you when you opted into the scheme. This permits quick checking of stickers by our staff to ensure the scheme isn’t abused and ensures the stickers aren’t damaged by the lifting equipment. If the sticker isn’t correctly placed it is possible that the collection staff won’t see it, and your bin may not be emptied. If this occurs due to the sticker not being correctly positioned, we reserve the right not to return to any missed collections.

My bin hasn't been emptied because the sticker became detached?

Sorry but we don’t return to empty bins where there was no sticker. Please let us know as soon as you become aware that the sticker has become detached, and we will send you a new sticker.

I want to opt-in to the service, but I don't currently have a bin. Can I join?

You can join the scheme online or call 01522 873255 and a Customer Services Assistant will order a bin for you, but there is a delivery charge (currently £15). Please note that we may sometimes make use of previously used bins in order to keep the cost of the service down.

You cannot supply your own bins which have been acquired elsewhere as the bins used need to meet safety standards. Many privately purchased bins will not be of the required quality.

Can I share a bin with a friend or neighbour?

Yes - provided we have a named person with the payment details, and the sticker is correctly attached to the bin.

What if I join the scheme and later decide to opt-out?

You can request to opt-out of the service at any time, however no refund will be payable.

I am moving house, do I need to cancel my service?

If you are staying inside the City of Lincoln Council boundary, just let us know and we will make arrangements for the service to transfer to your new property. You are required to take your green bin (and sticker) with you but change the address on the sticker. Please let us know at the same time if you receive assisted collections, so that we can update our records.

If you are moving out of the City of Lincoln Council boundary you should notify the Council if you want the service to stop (no refund is payable) or if you have received an assisted collection service, please advise the council as the new property owner/tenant may not qualify for this.
