Consultation on the Council's budget proposals 2021 - 2022

Council tax and rents

This year we are proposing a council tax increase of 1.9%.

Most of the council tax that you pay goes to Lincolnshire County Council and Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner, and therefore the overall increase depends on their decisions. For the City Council’s element of the council tax, at £190.26 and £221.97 for a Band A and Band B property this equates to an annual increase for 80 per cent of the properties in Lincoln of between £3.54 and £4.13 - an average of 7 pence a week.

For those who live in council houses or flats, in line with the Government’s Rent Policy for social housing, rents will increase by 1.5%. The average weekly rent for Lincoln tenants is now around £70.84 per week, equating to an average increase of £1.05 per week.

The provision of council housing is a separate, ring-fenced function and is funded entirely from rents, rather than the council tax.
