Available Group and Independent living housing

About our Sheltered or Group Housing

The scheme is only available to people who are over 60 years old and who are able to live independently with support where needed. Our accommodation offers the chance for you to
live independently in a small community whilst maintaining an active lifestyle. You have the opportunity to get involved with many fun activities within your complex and make friends. Family and friends are also welcome to come round anytime.

We have seven alternative schemes around the city with each accommodation offering different facilities to meet your needs. Sheltered housing schemes are properties all under one roof and communal facilities. Whilst group housing schemes are made up of small blocks of one and two bedroom flats or bungalows grouped around a central common room. All housing includes door-entry security to each communal entrance to the flats, laundry and drying facilities.

All properties have an emergency alarm system that residents can use to call the Scheme Manager for help if needed. An Independent Living Coordinator looks after the scheme (Monday to Friday) and gives residents the support they need to stay independent. When the coordinator is off duty, any alarm calls go to the council’s Lincare control centre. Once the alarm call is received an experience operator will source the problem, reassure you and arrange for the relevant assistance. Lincare hopes to allow you to improve your quality of life by ensuring that you are living independently in the comfort in your home, assisting carers in their role, lessening social isolation, reducing fear and increasing sense of safety, security and self-confidence.

All supported housing clients hold tenancies subject to our standard terms and conditions; therefore, they have the same rights as other tenants and are expected to live reasonably independently.

We do not provide personal care or home care services directly, however, with the consent from the tenant, our staff will help with the arrangement of care services through other agencies and carers.
