Apprenticeships are a unique and excellent way of gaining practical workplace experience, earning a salary, and starting out a career without the debt that can be accrued by going to study at university. They also offer a realistic alternative for those that prefer to start earning straight away, and for those who still want to obtain a qualification whilst they gain work experience.
It is no secret that being able to find fulfilling and sustained employment is now becoming increasingly difficult in today’s job market. Figures released by the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services now suggest that only 70 per cent of new university graduates were in any form of employment six months after they had finished their studies in 2014. By contrast a report published by the Skills Funding Agency identified that a staggering 90 per cent of qualified apprentices stay in employment following the completion of their programme (including two per cent who go on to become self-employed).
It is also worth considering that undertaking an apprenticeship will not prevent, or even damage a person’s chance to go to university in the future. In reality this has often been proven to be quite the opposite with universities often preferring candidates who may have already worked in the area they wish to study, and have a good idea of what they wish to achieve by studying in their chosen field. In addition to this Advanced and Higher apprenticeships are also awarded UCAS points meaning that applications to universities can still be made in the normal way.
We pride ourselves not only on our excellent rate of completion, but also on the individually tailored career advice provided to each
one of our learners. All of our apprentices our highly valued members of their teams and we are proud that over 95 per cent of those who have completed their qualification have gone on to further employment either with us, or one of our partner organisations as a direct result of their qualification.
