Work Based Learning

About Work Based Learning

At City of Lincoln Council we have been delivering high quality apprenticeships for over 20 years (since 1995). All of our apprentices our highly valued members of the team and over 95 per cent of those who have completed their qualification have gone on to further employment either with us, or one of our partner organisations.

Our national award winning programme aims both to cater to personal career aims and gives the chance to try out a range of different roles during training. Whether you have an interest in finance, sport and leisure, IT, customer services, housing, or human resources we will help you to find a role that you will find both challenging and rewarding.

What makes the city council’s apprenticeship scheme exemplary is our determination to go beyond just providing young people with a foot on the career ladder; it’s going the extra mile to support all groups to overcome barriers. Using the City of Lincoln Council’s ‘Vision 2020’ strategy as a guideline we aim to contribute to the main aims through our work. These being:

  • Let’s drive economic growth
  • Let’s reduce inequality
  • Let’s enhance our remarkable place

Of the scheme Leader of the council, Ric Metcalfe, says:

“The council’s apprenticeship scheme provides opportunities for young people and ‘grows our own’ talent to help us succeed as an organisation. It’s a great scheme for us, the city and for young people setting out in life for the first time”
