How to pay your council tax

You will normally receive your annual council tax bill in March. 

There are a few different ways you can pay your council tax to us. The easiest way is by direct debit.

This is the easiest and most convenient method of payment:

  • Five payments dates in the month to choose from – 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th
  • Choose to pay over ten or 12 months

To set up a direct debit call 01522 873355, with your bank details and preferred payment date. 

Or you can print and complete a direct debit form and post it back to us at Revenues and Benefits, PO Box 1257, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, LN5 5PQ.

If you pay by this method you are covered by the direct debit guarantee.

Payments can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 52 weeks a year. You will need:

  • Your account or reference number, and a
  • Debit or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Switch, Solo, Electron, Maestro International, Visa Purchasing and JCB)

You should also have a pen and paper ready to note your transaction reference number.

Simply call 01522 873666. Calls are charged at a local rate. Your account will be credited in two to three working days.

Payments can be made by credit and debit cards using our online payments system. You will need:

  • Your account or reference number, and a
  • Debit or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Switch, Solo, Electron, Maestro International, Visa Purchasing and JCB)

Payments can be made at Post Offices by Transcash but please note that payments can take several days to be credited to your Council Tax account. Please note a fee will be payable for this service.

You will need to complete a form at any Post Office quoting your council tax reference number and the following details:

  • Account: City of Lincoln Council
