Work at Lincoln’s new De Wint Court Extra Care facility is progressing, with roof trusses set to complete the exterior build in April.
City of Lincoln Council and contractors Esh Construction have confirmed the building for the new 50 one-bed and 20 two-bed apartment extra care facility on Bowden Drive is taking shape, with completion set for Autumn 2021.
Once complete, the redevelopment of De Wint Court will play a vital part in the city council’s commitment to provide quality homes at affordable rents, to meet the diverse housing need within the city.
The jointly funded scheme between City of Lincoln Council, Homes England and Lincolnshire County Council will have care provision available, non-resident management and support staff, a wellbeing suite, changing places facility, restaurant and salon.
De Wint Court has been designed in such a way that allows it to respond to individuals changing care needs with on-site care support.
It will aim to enhance quality of life and give people the provision to stay within their local communities and access services close to home.
Cllr Donald Nannestad, Portfolio Holder for Quality Housing at City of Lincoln Council said: “This scheme is being built with the aim of improving standards in wellbeing as well as housing and it’s exciting to see the development take shape.
“The new apartments will enable residents to maintain independence in their own homes as their needs change with care providers arranged by the county council.
“I look forward to seeing the completion of works later this year.”

Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Lincolnshire County Council's executive member for Adult Care, said: "We know about the forecast increase of older aged people and vulnerable adults in the county and this will provide accommodation for these groups who want to remain in their own homes but also have the option of on-site care.
"It will mean we can reinvest in preventative services, stopping people from becoming ill, whilst promoting wellbeing and independence."
