Parking discounts on offer as Lincoln retailers reopen

Lincoln central car park

City of Lincoln Council will be delivering a special offer in their car parks from 15 June. Discounted rates will apply in support of the city’s retail businesses as they reopen.

Government has backed non-essential retail outlets to open from 15 June and the city council, along with local partners and businesses, are finalising safety precautions to introduce visitors and workers safely back to Lincoln.

To welcome the public back to the city, shoppers will be able to park at all city council operated car parks for a special, time-limited rate of £1 per hour, up to a maximum of £4 per day, when paying through the easy to use,  PaybyPhone app. This offer, using the app, will apply to all council owned car parks, across the city centre, with the exception of Lincoln Central where the same rates will apply, but payment will need to be made using the normal building’s ‘pay on exit’ machines.

Paying through the app also allows drivers to avoid touching pay machines, however, these will continue to be regularly cleaned for those who still wish to use them - although the full rates will apply if this option is used.

The parking offer forms part of the ‘Proud to be Open’ scheme which aims to support the reopening of the city’s retailers safely and successfully later this month. A number of measures to ensure this is achieved are already in place, or set to be introduced over the coming days, including a deep cleaning of the city centre and signage and floor stickers, uphill and downhill, as a reminder of social distancing guidelines.

Simon Walters, Director of Communities and Environment at City of Lincoln Council, said: “The city and its car parks reopening is exciting news for shoppers and workers who have played a key role in keeping out community safe by staying at home and away from our usually busy and vibrant city centre.

“Ensuring visitors’ ongoing safety remains a priority and we are working with a multi-agency steering group and partners to ensure Lincoln is a safe and inviting place to work and shop, in addition to being a place where local businesses can thrive.

“Our parking offer is one way of the many ways we are helping the city recover and we hope lots of people take advantage of it to come and visit the city and its shops, while ensuring they socially distance themselves from others while here.

“It has been a difficult time for retailers across the whole of the city and we hope this next stage in the relaxation of restrictions brings the return to normality a safe step closer for many.”
