City of Lincoln Council will launch a Virtual Christmas Market, which aims to promote local businesses and traders in Lincoln as well as bring back visitor’s favourite stalls that return year on year.

During the Christmas period, in normal circumstances, Lincoln would see visitors from across the globe visit the city during the Lincoln Christmas Market.

Due to the UK’s coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 market was cancelled earlier this year.

Now, the city council has launched a Virtual Market to guide visitors to shopping local online.

The virtual market, which officially launches on 20 November, will run throughout the Christmas period until January, promoting and celebrating what our city and Lincoln Christmas Market traders have to offer.

Alongside more than 120 traders, which residents and visitors would normally browse, the virtual market also links to Visit Lincoln’s ShopLincoln website – offering a wide selection of locally sold and sourced items.

To help visitors to the site get in the Christmas spirit, there is also a wide range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, from Lincoln-themed colouring sheets to stick in your window, to festive food and drink recipes from Lincolnshire companies.

Cllr Neil Murray, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council said: “This year has certainly been different from what we are used to, but we want the spirit of Christmas to remain alive within the city.

“Now, more than ever, shopping locally and supporting small businesses is of upmost importance, which is why local businesses feature highly within our Virtual Christmas Market.

“Lincoln is bursting with a wide variety of unique treasures, and now is time to celebrate that.

"This Christmas may be different to any we have had before, but the spirit remains the same: support local, help others and spread joy.”
