Disease risk and damage

Mice are able to live in almost any available space. They can squeeze through extremely small openings, living and breeding under floors, in cavity walls, ceiling voids and behind skirting boards. They will contaminate the environments in which they live with urine, droppings and hairs. They carry a wide range of diseases which can be passed onto humans, either by directly contaminating food with droppings and urine or, by contaminating surfaces.

Mice will cause extensive damage to property. They are capable of gnawing a range of materials. There is a significant risk of fire and electrocution as a result of mice chewing through electric cables and wiring.

Poison baiting

Mouse infestations are usually controlled using poisoned bait. Poison baits must be handled with great care and laid in a safe manner to prevent children, pets and other animals from gaining access to them. You can purchase poison baits or mouse-traps from most large hardware stores. If you have a particularly large infestation it might be worth you contacting a pest control specialist.
