Who can apply and types of parking permits

Residents permits

You can apply for a residents parking permit if you are a resident who lives in one of the parking permit zones.

Any household can have up to two permits each (regardless of the type of permits you have). For example, you could have one residents permits and one visitor permit or you could have two residents permits.

In order to apply you will need to provide;

  • proof of that you currently live at an address within the zone you are applying for
  • a payment card       
  • your vehicle registration, make, model and colour
  • your vehicle registration document (V5) registered at the same address as the above (a valid insurance certificate is acceptable in place of the V5)

Visitor permits

You can buy visitor permits so that your friends and family can also park within the residents parking zones when they are visiting you. These work in the same way as a residents permit.

In order to apply you will need to provide;

  • proof of that you currently live at an address within the zone you are applying for   
  • a payment card

Please be aware that any misuse will lead to removal of the ability to buy and use this type of permit in the future. 

Visitor day scratchcards

You can also use visitors day scratchcards in your visitor's car. Scratchcards are valid for one day of parking only. 

Whether you have an annual permit or not, you may apply for one free book of visitor scratch-cards per property, per year. If you do apply for an annual permit, your free book will come with the first permit at the property. If you have used all your scratchcards you can purchase an additional visitor scratchcard book for £17.


Temporary permits / trade permits

Houses in multiple occupancy (HIMO)    

There are a maximum two parking permits available per HIMO (House in Multiple Occupation) per year for the entire property but a resident can only apply to receive one permit, not both.


Business permits    

If you own a business premises with no off street parking within one of the parking zones you can apply for a maximum of two business permits. 

You may apply for your business permits to be vehicle specific or ‘visitor’.
