Voluntary conservation opportunities

If you are interested in joining then please download one of our registration forms and contact us to arrange an induction.

Information about the work you can do can be found in the document ‘volunteers general information’.
The City Council Volunteer Policy is also available for download.

Our regular volunteer session is on Wednesdays from 1.30pm.

Wildlife monitoring

Park Rangers monitor the wetland birds of Hartsholme Country Park and Swanholme Lakes LNR as part of the national Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS). Surveys are carried out monthly.

The island on Hartsholme Lake is an important site for herons. Over the breeding season the heron population is monitored and this information also feeds into a national survey run by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).

We also monitor the presence of butterflies, dragonflies and reptiles over the summer months.

Joining us

If you would like to know more about any of these surveys or are interested in joining in other volunteer opportunities please contact the Park Rangers.
