The finishing touches are now taking place on the new Lincoln Transport Hub with the new multi storey car park due to open on Friday 17 November.
The new 1,000 space car park is the first part of the exciting £30million development and will open its doors to its first visitors in time for the Lincoln Christmas Lights switch on.
The road improvements currently taking place along St Mary’s Street and Oxford Street will also be complete in time for the opening of the new car park. Preparations for this final phase of work will commence on Monday 16 October.
In order to complete this final resurfacing work, there will be two, staggered, road closures taking place:
- The first road closure will be in operation along St Mary’s Street from Monday 16 October until Friday 20 October. Pedestrian access will, however, be maintained along St Marys Street. The road will be closed from the High Street/St Marys Street junction. Vehicular access to the railway station will be off Oxford Street via a temporary diversion route from Wigford Way along Silver Street and down Broadgate and accessing the railway station car park via the Pelham Bridge underpass. Taxi ranks will be moved from St Mary’s Street to Wigford Way during this work.
- The second road closure is from Monday 30 October until Friday 3 November will take place along Oxford Street. This will mean the road east of the railway station to Pelham Bridge will be closed. Vehicular access to the railway station will be via the completed St Mary’s Street access into the station forecourt. The taxi ranks will be on St Mary’s Street as well as Wigford Way during this time. Access to the new Network Rail Car Park on Oxford Street will be closed to enable the final re-surfacing and white lining works to be completed.
Access for delivery vehicles and HGVs will also be affected during these closures.
The new year will see the opening of the new state-of-the-art bus station - which will be open to the public to view ahead of its official operational date.
Once complete, Lincoln Transport Hub will create a modern, inviting transportation hub and gateway to the city, improving the quality of public spaces for residents, workers and visitors by creating a safe, attractive and accessible environment.
