Plans for the redevelopment of De Wint Court on Bowden Drive are going to the City of Lincoln Council’s Executive Committee for formal approval on 25 February following the seal of planning permission in December 2018.
De Wint Court on Bowden Drive is proposed to become a three and two storey facility with a difference, comprising of 50 one bed apartments and 20 two bed apartments, as well as additional amenities such as a public restaurant, public hair salon, lounge and 35 space car park for future residents and their families to use.
The site currently accommodates a vacant, two storey building which was once home to 37 sheltered bedsits and flats, common rooms, a hair salon and laundrette.
Daren Turner, Director of Housing and Investment at City of Lincoln Council, said:
“Lincoln has a shortfall of housing with care, which is why we’re looking to fill that void and bridge the gap between ordinary sheltered housing and residential care for all residents, whether they have high, medium or low care needs.
“We’re working in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council and Homes England on the project and subject to Executive approval, we’re hoping to start work on the site in late 2019 and have the facility completed in 2021.
“As part of our Vision 2020, we want to continue to meet the varied needs of our residents, help them to have a sense of belonging and improve housing conditions for all.”
Donald Nannestad, Portfolio Holder for Quality Housing at City of Lincoln Council, said: “Demand for housing is increasing and as a council, we believe that having a home isn’t just about bricks and mortar.
“We aim to build 400 new homes by 2020 as part of the council’s vision and will continue to work closely with partners to provide homes for every need.”
