Non-payment of Council Tax

Help paying your Council Tax

If you are having difficulties paying your Council Tax, please do contact us straight away as we always prefer to help our residents who are struggling to pay..

Reducing your bill

You should check if you are eligible for a discount or exemption on your Council Tax bill.

We may be able to reduce your bill by providing you with Council Tax support. Council Tax support can reduce your bill by as much as 100 per cent if:

  • you are getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
  • the income we have to take into account is low enough for you to qualify
  • your savings and investments are below £16,000

We may be able to reduce your bill by providing you with a second adult rebate if you share your home with someone who is:

  • over 18
  • not paying rent or Council Tax
  • and is on a low income

If you don't pay your Council Tax

We always prefer to help our residents who are struggling to pay so please do contact us as soon as you can.

If you do not contact us we will be forced to take recovery action, such as final notices, liability orders and court summons. You will receive a summons if you haven’t paid the debt you owe as agreed in a payment plan. Please be aware that once your debt has been passed on to enforcement agents we can no longer discuss your payment arrangements with you.
