Existing animal licences and their gradings

On 1st October 2018 new government regulations came into force which effects animal boarding businesses, dog breeders, pet shops, riding establishments, and those keeping or training animals for exhibition. Under the new Animal Welfare Legislation, anyone partaking in these activities will require a licence. 

The following have been issued licences in this regard;

Pet shops

6. Pets at Home - Unit 7 Tritton Road Retail Park, Lincoln, LN5 7AN (5 Stars)

7. Pets Corner - 1 Moorland Way, Lincoln, LN6 7JW (5 Stars)

How Long will these licences last for? 

1. Providing or arranging for the provision of boarding for cats & dogs - New Applications will last for 1 year as there is no compliance history and therefore they will be deemed as high risk. For existing licences the length on the licence will be determined by their risk rating. Licence length can be between 1-3 years depending on whether they are meeting higher standards of animal welfare.

2. Selling animals as pets - New Applications will last for 1 year as there is no compliance history and therefore they will be deemed as high risk. For existing licences the length on the licence will be determined by their risk rating. Licence length can be between 1-3 years depending on whether they are meeting higher standards of animal welfare.

3. Hiring out horses – New Applications will last for 1 year as there is no compliance history and therefore they will be deemed as high risk. For existing licences the length on the licence will be determined by their risk rating. Licence length can be between 1-3 years depending on whether they are meeting higher standards of animal welfare.

4. Breeding Dogs - New Applications will last for 1 year as there is no compliance history and therefore they will be deemed as high risk. For existing licences the length on the licence will be determined by their risk rating. Licence length can be between 1-3 years depending on whether they are meeting higher standards of animal welfare.

5. Keeping or training animals for exhibition – all licences are for 3 years. There are no risk assessments applied for these activities.

Right of appeal 

An applicant aggrieved by the refusal of the Council to grant an animal licence or by any condition attached to the grant of such a licence may appeal to a Magistrates Court.
