Following significant feedback from local businesses, residents and visitors to the city, a programme of new Lincoln events has been announced for 2023.

Under the new Events in Lincoln umbrella, three main events organised by City of Lincoln Council will take place alongside enhanced activity already scheduled for the city over the next 6 months, as well as new and improved Christmas lights from Newport Arch, all the way down to Tentercroft Street.

Following the enhanced events in partnership with Steampunk, 1940s Weekend and Lincoln Pride in summer, Events in Lincoln will kick off its programme with Lincoln Live, curated by BBC Music Introducing Lincolnshire in September in the Cornhill area of the city.

In October half term, residents, visitors and businesses will witness Lincoln’s first Monster Invasion, with a number of gigantic monsters taking over the city’s buildings at locations from the Brayford up to Castle Square, with accompanying street theatre, bringing the city to life.

November will see the launch of Lincoln’s new Christmas light displays and trail, with last year’s Light Trail from Lincoln BIG, Lincolnshire Coop and St Marks developed to dazzle the audiences.

New for December 2023, the Lincoln Ice Trail will be launched, with a minimum of 10 Christmas themed ice sculptures and a further 5 bespoke Lincoln-inspired ice figures dotted across Lincoln High Street and Uphill Lincoln, including close to the new Cornhill Market, which is due to officially open in Autumn. This will also include live ice carving demonstrations to wow visitors.

This 2023 programme of free events will give a flavour of what to expect ahead of the official launch of the 2024 Events in Lincoln programme, created based on further consultation with residents, businesses, and visitors.

Cllr Naomi Tweddle, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council said: “Events in Lincoln is our flagship programme of activity to help benefit residents, businesses and visitors alike.

“Lincoln is a fantastic place to live and visit and we have taken on board requests and ideas from people across the city to form this initial programme of events ahead of the 2024 launch.

“From live music to family-friendly trails, we have created a series of activities and enhancements to existing events to introduce a programme for all ages, which will benefit the wider city economy.”
