In late 2022, Old Wood Organic CIC was awarded £2,500 from the Lincoln Lottery Community Fund to deliver a Green Woodworking Project.

The allocation of the fund followed a resident consultation in October 2022, which identified food banks and green spaces as the two priority cause areas for the 2022 fund.

Since the project launched in early 2023, nearly 100 individuals and families have benefitted from the project through attending one or more of the workshops. During the workshops participants were guided to work with wood to create beautiful yet simple things, whilst learning the basics of actively caring for green spaces.

These workshops have been made available thanks to funding raised by supporters of the Lincoln Community Lottery. Players who have selected to support a specific local good cause also donate 10 pence of each ticket to the Community Fund, meaning that every player of Lincoln Community Lottery has contributed to the £2,500 that was awarded to Old Wood Organic CIC.

Nursery teacher and mum of two, Jane, has seen the benefits of these session not only on her mental health but her family life too. She and her son attend on a regular basis and have really embraced the green woodworking and say they have been bitten by the green wood bug and joined all of the sessions, “It is such a healthy and rewarding hobby. Ben gave suggestions, but we were free to develop our own ideas and make things to our interests and abilities.”

Atma, CEO from Old Wood Organic said: “We were delighted to receive support from the Lincoln Lottery Community Fund for this inspiring and truly collaborative project. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, people became more aware of how important a connection to nature and community is. We hope that the people that have taken part in one of our workshops will share what they have learned with their families and networks to help us to become a sustainable district where people feel inspired and motivated to actively care for each other and our green spaces.”

I would like to thank City of Lincoln Council and Lincoln Community Lottery for granting us the funds to deliver such a rewarding project.”
