City of Lincoln Council’s Executive will discuss the progress as part of the Western Growth Corridor development.

City of Lincoln Council’s Executive will discuss the progress with the delivery of the Skellingthorpe Road (southern access) works and proposed housing development, as well as an update on the Tritton Road bridge (eastern access) as part of the Western Growth Corridor project later this month.

At Executive on Monday 19 February, members will be provided with an update on proposals for the design and delivery of the main bridge and road link, which will form the eastern access point into the Western Growth Corridor site.

In February 2023, Executive approved the proposed funding and delivery arrangements for the construction of the southern access into the Western Growth Corridor site from Skellingthorpe Road.

Construction works commenced in August 2023 and are due to be completed later this year. This new access road will serve the first 300 new homes.

Further approvals were made in June and July 2023 to proceed on design works to the new vehicular bridge over the railway from Tritton Road and road to the east of the site.

Updated designs for the main vehicular bridge over the railway have now been submitted to both Network Rail and Lincolnshire County Council to secure ‘Approval in Principle’ prior to the technical design stage, which will follow over the next two months.

Subject to technical approvals and a final cost, the construction works for the main bridge are anticipated to commence during Summer/Autumn 2024.

The design and delivery of this project is supported by Levelling Up Fund Round 2 grant of £20 million.

Prior to the main start on site, enabling works will be required to prepare the land for development, which will include the clearance of vegetation and trees, particularly to the east of the railway, which is the location of the main access route.

An information event regarding these enabling works and the overall scheme will take place on 28 February from 4pm – 6.30pm at The Showroom, Lincoln, to allow members of the public, local residents and businesses to gain an understanding of proposed timeframes and programme.

Cllr Naomi Tweddle, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council said: “We are happy to confirm works to the southern access on Skellingthorpe Road are progressing well and are on track for competition within the 52 week programme.

“Work is also progressing to open up the WGC development via its eastern access, which will create opportunities for housing growth and contributing directing and indirectly to the economic growth of the city.

“I look forward to discussing this in full with my colleagues in Executive on 19 February.”
