80* organisations have now gained accreditation to the Lincoln Social Responsibility Charter demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility and making Lincoln a better place to live and work

The Lincoln Social Responsibility Charter was launched by City of Lincoln Council in 2018 to encourage and recognise employers that undertake socially responsible activities above the statutory minimum which benefit both their employees and the local community.

Some examples of socially responsible activities undertaken by signees include paying the real living wage, offering support for mental wellbeing, signing the Low Carbon Lincoln Charter, providing employee volunteering within work time, fundraising for local charities and more.

Accreditation to the charter is free, and is open to all types of organisations to join from all sectors. Signees to the charter receive a certificate endorsed by the Mayor of Lincoln, promotion by the council as a charter signee via a range of routes and an invitation to the Lincoln Social Responsibility Forum, which is a networking event for charter signees to share social responsibility best practice.

Benefits to organisations undertaking socially responsibility activities can include increased staff retention, reduced recruitment costs, increased customer loyalty, better brand reputation, a more productive workforce and recognition as an ethical employer.

Cllr Ric Metcalfe, Leader of City of Lincoln Council, said: “Undertaking socially responsible activities can bring huge benefits to employers, employees and the wider community.

“Organisations of all sizes can take many simple steps to become more socially responsible from paying their staff a living wage and providing opportunities for their development, to promoting greener workplace practices, sponsoring local events, or offering apprenticeships and work experience opportunities to develop valuable skills.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the organisations that have committed their time and resources to making Lincoln a better place to many to live and work in, and encourage the many businesses that have socially responsible practices that haven’t yet signed the Lincoln Social Responsibility Charter to gain accreditation.”
