Composting

Why compost?

Over 30 per cent of an average household bin can be composted at home. This includes lots of everyday waste items from your kitchen and garden. If these items are sent to landfill they are unable to decompose properly and produce methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Composting this waste at home will not only provide your garden with a wonderful soil improver, it will also help to reduce the impact of global warming and divert an average of over 150kg of waste from landfill each year.

Children find composters fascinating when they learn how nature turns waste into compost by using microbes and mini-beasts and then how the compost can be used to help grow fruit, vegetables and plants.
