Tell us about your business?

Linwave Technology is a high-technology design and manufacturing business specialising in RF components and sub-systems. It was established in 2003 following a management buy-out of Celeritek UK, and has grown from the original 5 founding members to now employ a team of 32 people. Although predominantly supplying into major UK businesses, Linwave continues to expand into mainland Europe, North America and the Far East. It is actively involved in designing and providing products to the aerospace, defence, marine, medical and automotive markets, and has recently attained AS9100 quality standard to sit alongside both ISO9001 and ISO14001 Environmental standard.

Why did you choose to sign up to the charter?

The success of Linwave Technology is based on the skills and abilities of its workforce, and it considers its employees to be key to its future. The Board of Directors wanted to retain the workforce by making Linwave a place where people like to come to work, and signing up to the charter was a way of underpinning this commitment to the wider team. In addition, the business wanted to give something back to the local community, and to strengthen the links it already had with local charities, Businesses, Schools, Colleges, and the University. Lincoln is a great place to live and work, and there are a number of groups that do vital and often unrecognised work in the background. Signing up to the charter has given the business a platform to connect with and promote these groups, and this ultimately benefits us all.

Have you noticed any positive changes since undertaking a range of socially responsible activities?

We have established a works committee to organise social events and fund-raising activities for local charities, and have been able to make contact with a number of these charities on a regular basis. This has helped make the fundraising process both fun, and more relevant to the workforce, as they can see the benefits their efforts have on the local community.

Do you have any words for a business looking to sign up to the charter?

If you are considering signing up to the charter, go ahead and do it. There are a lot of positive benefits which come about as a result of signing up, not least the feeling that you are contributing something important to your local community. We have a lot to be thankful for living and working in a City as beautiful as Lincoln, and signing up to the charter is a small way of making it an even better place to be.
