Acts Trust is a charity with a mission to Empower People to End Poverty. We run projects that aim to prevent and alleviate poverty.
Why did you choose to sign up to the charter?
We believe we have a responsibility to support all our stakeholders - not just our project beneficiaries but also our own staff and volunteers and the communities in which we operate
Have you noticed any positive changes since undertaking a range of socially responsible activities?
There has been a positive increase in a sense of empowerment for individuals and also in a sense of worth/value. As we’ve given people opportunities to gain work experience or to volunteer, particularly through the pandemic, people have felt empowered that they can make a positive difference. And as we’ve ensured we pay our staff the Living Wage Foundation rate of pay as a minimum, or above, this has made our staff feel valued and appreciated.
Do you have any words for a business looking to sign up to the charter?
Local businesses are more and more keen to be active locally and play their part for the community. If you are a business owner you will probably find that you already fulfil some of the commitments to this charter. Signing up is a declaration of your intention to be a positive contributor to your workforce and the local community - and it let’s people know it!
