What’s on in Lincoln’s green spaces in May?

As spring continues and Lincoln’s green spaces come into their own, there are plenty of opportunities for families to get outdoors and enjoy a range of activities this May.

From guided walks exploring local wildlife and history to hands-on sessions for young children, these activities offer something for all ages to connect with nature, learn new skills, and make the most of the city’s parks and open spaces.


The programme begins on Sunday, 3 May at Hartsholme Country Park from 10:30am to 12:30 midday with Bird Watching for All.

Join Lincoln Local RSPB members for a guided walk to discover the many species of birds which reside in the park throughout the year. This event is free of charge, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should meet outside the Visitor Centre, Hartsholme Country Park, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, LN6 0EY.


On Wednesday, 6 May, a Tree Walk will take place at Lincoln Arboretum from 11am to 1pm.

Join Park Rangers for the Tree Council’s annual ‘Walk Where You May’ event and discover the trees of the Arboretum. Attendees can find out about some of the interesting trees on site and learn the basics of tree identification. This event is free, meeting outside the café at Lincoln Arboretum, Monks Road, Lincoln, LN2 5RT.


A History Walk will be held on Sunday, 10 May at Hartsholme Country Park from 11am to 1pm.

This guided history walk will take participants back through time, from when Hartsholme was a thriving estate to its present-day role as a country park. Meet outside the Visitor Centre, Hartsholme Country Park, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, LN6 0EY. This event is free.


For younger visitors, Toddler Time takes place on Friday, 15 May at Hartsholme Country Park from 10am to 11am.

Join Park Rangers for seasonal activities designed for children aged one to five years. Please dress to get messy. The session costs £4.50 per child, meeting outside the Visitor Centre, Hartsholme Country Park, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, LN6 0EY.


Another Tree Walk will take place on Sunday, 17 May at Hartsholme Country Park from 11am to 1pm.

As part of the Tree Council’s ‘Walk Where You May’ event, participants can discover more about the park’s trees and learn how to identify them. This event is free, meeting outside the Visitor Centre, Hartsholme Country Park, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, LN6 0EY.


On Friday, 29 May, a Bug Box Hotel session will be held at Hope Wood from 10am to 11:30am.

Taking place during Kids Gardening Week, children can create a home for bugs and take away their own mini conservation project. The session costs £4.50 per child and booking is essential. Meet at St Helen’s Church, Hall Drive, Lincoln, LN6 7SW.

Later the same day, on Friday, 29 May, a Bug Hunt will take place at Boultham Park from 1pm to 2:30pm.

Join Park Rangers to explore the park and get up close to the insects and mini beasts that live there. Participants will search grassland, look under logs and explore trees to see what they can find. The session costs £4.50 per child and booking is essential. Meet at the Bandstand, Boultham Park, Rookery Lane, Lincoln, LN6 7PH.
