Families can get into the Halloween spirit this half-term with a range of spooky activities at Hartsholme Country Park, Lincoln Arboretum and Boultham Park.
From creepy trails and pumpkin carving to making a home for local bats, there is something for children of all ages to enjoy while making the most of Lincoln’s green spaces.
Running from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October, the Halloween Trail at Hartsholme Country Park will challenge brave visitors to make their way through a creepy trail, with a deliciously ghoulish treat waiting for those who make it to the end.
Families can collect a trail sheet from the Visitor Centre any time between 12pm and 3pm, with no booking required. The trail costs £4.50 per child.
Children can also join the council’s Park Rangers to design and carve their own Halloween pumpkin at one of three sessions across the city.
Sessions will take place at:
- Lincoln Arboretum on Wednesday 28 October from 10am to 11.30am
- Hartsholme Country Park on Wednesday 28 October from 1pm to 2.30pm
- Boultham Park on Thursday 29 October from 10am to 11.30am.
By designing and carving their own Jack-o’-lanterns, children can help ward off evil spirits, with each session costing £4.50 per child. Booking is essential.
For families looking to do something a little different, Hartsholme Country Park will also host a bat box-making session on Thursday 29 October from 1pm to 2.30pm.
In celebration of Bat Week, children can learn how to support local wildlife by making a bat box, and for any families with bats in their area, providing them with shelter in their garden. The session costs £9 per child and booking is essential.
All activities are a great opportunity for children to get creative, explore the outdoors and enjoy some seasonal fun during the school holidays.
Councillor Rebecca Longbottom, Portfolio Holder for Remarkable Place at City of Lincoln Council, said:
“Our parks are wonderful places for families to enjoy throughout the year, and these Halloween activities offer a fun way for children to get creative, spend time outdoors and learn more about local wildlife during the school half-term. I’d encourage families to explore what’s on offer and book early for the sessions that require a place.”
