From this year onwards, City of Lincoln Council, in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, will hold its annual Remembrance Service on Armistice Day itself, with this year’s service taking place on Wednesday 11 November 2026.
The service will take place at the Lincoln War Memorial on the High Street, starting at approximately 10.15am, giving residents, visitors and organisations the opportunity to come together to remember and honour those who have served, and continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.
Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the Armistice coming into effect at 11am on 11 November 1918, bringing an end to fighting in the First World War. The anniversary is marked nationally with a two-minute silence at 11am to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict.
A civic procession, led by Lincoln’s Town Crier, will leave the Guildhall at 10.40am and travel down the High Street to the War Memorial. The procession will include the Mayor of Lincoln and Civic Party, councillors, other civic representatives and Military representatives, alongside invited guests.
The service will be conducted by Reverend Steven Holt, with wreaths laid at the War Memorial as a mark of remembrance and respect. Standard bearers organised by the Royal British Legion will also attend.
Kate Fenn, Civic and International Partnerships Manager at City of Lincoln Council, said:
“Holding the service on Remembrance Day itself allows our city to come together at the moment the nation pauses to remember and reflect those who served in the Armed Forces for our country.
“We welcome residents, visitors, businesses and organisations to join us in paying tribute to all those who have served, and continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.”
The service is expected to conclude around midday. Members of the public are welcome to attend and join the city in paying their respects.
Any businesses or organisations wishing to lay a wreath should contact civic@lincoln.gov.uk.
