Allotment policies and publications

The City Council is aware of the importance of allotments, both to support its stated priorities as an organisation and in the lives of the many allotment tenants across the city. As a result it has been working towards the development of an allotments strategy to guide how these services might be developed in the future. The draft strategy, which was recently considered by members of the Policy Scrutiny Committee, contains recommendations for issues such as where the Council should have allotments, what the charges should be, and how they should be managed. It also looks at the difficult issues of priorities for spending and of how to raise funds to invest in allotments.

The draft strategy is under consideration currently, and is expected to move on for consideration by the Council’s Executive shortly. If agreed, it would then become the document that the Council will work from to guide its decisions on allotment management in the future.
