Information on Allotments

Who maintains the tracks and paths on the allotment site?

We (City of Lincoln Council) maintain the main tracks on the site. The smaller grass paths between the plots (either side of the plot) are the responsibility of the plot holders on either side of it to maintain.

Paths must be kept clear at all times for access. Items must not be left on pathways, as these create safety hazards for others. Grassed paths must be regularly mowed. Access paths should be approximately 50cm in width.

Do I have to live in the city of Lincoln to have a City of Lincoln Council allotment?

Yes.

However, depending on your proximity to the city, we may agree for the restrictions to be relaxed and to allow a plot to be taken on at the Canwick Hill site.

Can I take my dog to the allotment?

Dogs are allowed on allotment sites, but must be kept on a lead at all times unless on your plot.

You must always clean up after your dog.

Composting on your allotment

We encourage allotment holders to compost on site any green waste materials created on their allotment plot. Compost makes good fertiliser for the plot and recycles waste, reduces costs and improves the quality of the soil on the plot.

It is important to create small, contained heaps as larger compost heaps provide a habitat for vermin.

You should only compost waste generated from your own crops, do not bring material to compost from other properties such as your kitchen or other gardens. Any tenant found bringing garden waste onto the allotment from elsewhere will be putting their allotment tenancy at risk of being terminated.
