Animal Activities Licensing

Fees and Conditions

Fees

The regulations allow us to charge a fee to the applicant to cover ‘reasonable anticipated costs’. This includes costs for processing applications, issuing licences, inspecting premises, and enforcement. The fees charged for a licence will be provided upon application.

Please be aware that there may be additional costs if the council consider that a veterinary surgeon should accompany an inspector on any visit.

Conditions

Guidance is available which explains the conditions that businesses need to meet in order to receive an animal activities licence. View the guidance on Gov.uk

We cannot change these conditions as they are already set in the legislation. Businesses operating with these activities will need to comply with the conditions and will be assessed before the licence is granted to make sure they can meet them.

Who may not apply for a licence?

Section 11 of the Regulations states who cannot apply for a licence. The main purpose of the Regulations is to ensure the highest possible welfare of animals.

The Council will not normally grant a licence to a person with one (or more) conviction(s) for any offence that is related to animal cruelty or suffering. These types of offences are relevant to all animal activity applications.

The Council will consider the conviction or behaviour in question and what weight should be attached to it. Each application will be determined on its own merits.
