Lincoln Lottery Community Fund awards £10,000 to local good causes.

City of Lincoln Council's community lottery has awarded three local good causes a share of funding totalling £10,000.

The Lincoln Lottery Community Fund 2022 has been raised by supporters of Lincoln Community Lottery who have directly selected the fund as their good cause when purchasing tickets, donating 60 pence of every ticket purchased.

Players who have selected to support a specific local good cause have also donated 10 pence of each ticket to the Community Fund, meaning that every player of Lincoln Community Lottery has contributed to the £10,000 which was up for grabs.

The allocation of the fund follows a resident consultation, which identified food banks and green spaces as the two priority areas for the 2022 fund. In October 2022, local good causes were invited to apply for a share of the funding to run a specific project or activity that supports residents of the City of Lincoln in one or both of these areas.

The Lincoln Lottery Community Fund is allocated to good causes annually in the winter.

Following an application and selection process led by Voluntary Centre Services and supported by the City of Lincoln Council, the three successful good causes for 2022 include:

Acts Trust - Awarded £4,000 to purchase food to help meet the current unprecedented demand being placed on Lincoln’s food banks. The food banks which will benefit from the food purchases include Lincoln Community Larder, Lincoln Foodbank and Lincoln Community Grocery. It is anticipated that funds will support the purchase of food during the first term of 2023 (January to April 2023).

GoGro CIC - Awarded £3,500 to run interactive cooking sessions for customers of food banks throughout the City of Lincoln. The sessions will take place at food banks or, where necessary, at nearby community hubs or venues. They will concentrate on helping families create healthy, nutritious meals using ingredients commonly provided by food banks, including those that are often harder to use, such as turnips and parsnips. The sessions will also highlight how to reduce energy use when cooking, with practical advice on using microwave ovens and slow cookers efficiently.

Old Wood Organic CIC - Awarded £2,500 to run green woodworking courses where participants will learn traditional rural crafts and develop new skills, while also learning the importance of caring for our green spaces. The courses will cover axe skills and basic wood turning and will be aimed at both complete beginners and those who enjoy the practice of green woodworking. The project aims to be welcoming and accessible for our diverse local community, providing opportunities for people living in Lincoln city and the surrounding villages.
