Let your property through the City Council

We are looking for good quality, affordable accommodation for waiting families and individuals both in the city and close to city boundaries.  Our Private Landlord Scheme has been running successfully since June 2014 and we have over 80 properties within the city and we need more!

The scheme is completely FREE to landlords and offers everything you would expect from a professional service:-

For each prospective tenant we complete or obtain:-

  • Reference checks from previous landlord

  • Affordability check – proof of income

  • Anti social behaviour check and existing rent arrears

  • Right to Rent and immigration check

  • Housing benefit entitlement

We provide a deposit guarantee (cashless bond) of up to £700 which does not have to be placed in a government approved deposit scheme.  The guarantee covers any damage, re-decorating, rubbish clearance and also rent arrears, at the end of the tenancy.

For each tenancy we will:

  • Pay one month’s rent in advance

  • Open a credit union account for the tenant(s) as vehicle for receiving housing benefit and for paying rent

  • Carry out tenancy “health check” after the initial 2 months and thereafter if required

  • Provide a dedicated officer to be the point of contact for both landlords and tenants

We require from landlords:-

  • A valid gas safe certificate

  • A valid electrical inspection report

  • A current EPC

  • Buildings insurance certificate

  • Minimum 12 month assured shorthold tenancy

All landlords joining the scheme will be assisted and encouraged to become a member of our trusted landlord accreditation scheme.
