Crematorium and City Cemetery updates

Coronavirus Restrictions 

As per the Government announcement, from Monday 19th July 2021, the rules on funerals and commemorative events, such as stone setting ceremonies, the burial of ashes have changed.

There will no longer be restrictions on the numbers of mourners attending funerals, social distancing rules will no longer apply and face coverings will no longer be required by law.

However, the Government still recommends wearing face masks in busy or crowded areas:

  • Crematorium staff will continue to wear face coverings for your protection
  • Test and Trace information is no longer required by law however a QR code will be available in the Crematorium car park for scanning should you still wish to check in
  • Hand sanitising stations will also continue to be available
  • Webcasts will no longer be free of charge for any services to be held on or after the 1st August 2021.

Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance will go back to normal opening hours from Monday 19th July 2021:

Monday to Thursday 9:00am - 4:30pm
Friday 9.00am - 4.00pm
Saturday & Sunday 10.00am - 4.00pm
Public Holidays 10.00am - 4.00pm

Crematorium Office

The Crematorium Office will go back to normal opening hours from Monday 19th July 2021:

Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm
Saturday & Sunday Closed
Public Holidays Closed

Garden of remembrance burials

Witnessed burials in the Garden of Remembrance will still be available once a day at 12.00pm until further notice.  Please contact the office to book a burial.

We will continue to update our website should the Government provide any further guidelines.

Visiting graves in the Cemeteries

As per the guidance you can visit a burial ground (cemetery), to pay respects to a member of their household, a family member or friend.
