Great British Insulation Scheme
The Great British Insulation Scheme was government funded and designed to help eligible people install energy efficiency measures to lower your energy usage and save you money on bills. Applications for this scheme closed on 14 October 2025.
Unlike other grant funded schemes, the Great British Insulation Scheme increases the scope of eligibility to provide funding to both those on the lowest incomes as well as support to a wider group of households who are living in the least energy efficient homes in the country.
Eligibility
There were two groups that were eligible for this funding. The criteria for each group differed and they would also receive different levels of support. The two groups were labelled general and low income eligibility.
General group
To be eligible for the general group, you had to meet the following criteria:
- live in a council tax bands A to D
- have an energy performance certificate rating of D to G
- if privately rented, your energy performance certificate rating must be in band D or E
In the general group you will only be able to get one type of insulation installed (such as cavity wall Insulation or loft Insulation, but not both). You may also had to pay a small contribution towards the cost.
Low income group
To be eligible for the low-income group, you must meet the following criteria:
- receive means-tested benefits
- have an energy performance certificate rating of D to G
